SRU Awards Dinner 2010

Dalziel Rugby Club celebrated in style at the SRU Club Awards Dinner on Friday 21st of May, with two winners on the night.

The biggest cheer of the night was when Craig Simmonds (Simmo) won National 1 Player of the season and received his award from former Scottish international scrum half , Andy Nicol. This was a well deserved award and one which the whole Club takes great delight in seeing Simmo's efforts on the pitch this season getting the recognition they deserve.

Jimmy Sinclair was also recognized as Coach of the Season and won this award in front of all of the other coaches in Scottish Rugby. Again this award is well deserved and the Club would like to thank Jimmy for all of the effort that he has put in over the past two seasons and wish him well in the future.

Despite being the only undefeated club in the whole of Scotland, the best defensive record in Scotland, putting out four teams on a Saturday plus all of the junior teams, having an exemplary disciplinary record and being the best damn rugby club in Scotland, the award for team of the year went to Currie, the team that our seconds humped on their own ground in the league match earlier this year.

The try of the season was given for two knock on's and a fly hack through that ended with a high tackle in the corner. Wee Rab was gutted, and rightfully so. It just goes to show that there is no accounting for taste.

A right good night though and I would be grateful if someone could tell me how I ended up in Miekle Earnock. Thanks.
