This local derby has in previous seasons been a close match and Dalziel had during the week prepared for it, what they produced in the following 80 minutes was a master class in how to play positive attacking rugby.

East Kilbride started the game with some positive thrusts at the Dalziel defence and stout tackling was required by the home side. On the 12 minute Dalziel went on the attack with a penetrating run by John Goldie resulting in an offload to Robert Simpson who passed to Andy Hill to open the scoring for the home side.
