Folks
It is the Dalziel Rugby Club Sportsmans Dinner on Friday 6th November at Colville Park. I am organising players and club members tables (at a specially negotiated rate).
This has always been a brilliant night with a speaker from the world of sport and a comedian. I know this is a Friday night but it would be great to get as many club members along this year and there will be no recriminations if you are on soft drinks all night as you may be playing the next day.
Please email me at vicepresident@dalzielrugby.com or leave a message below.
The main speaker is John Beattie. He played rugby for Glasgow Schools and on moving to university to study Civil Engineering he was capped by Scotland 25 times, once as captain.
During John's rugby career, he toured with the British Lions to South Africa in 1980, New Zealand in 1983 and played for the Lions against the Rest of the World in 1986. He was in the last Scottish team to beat England at Twickenham (1983) and the team that beat England by a record score (33-6 in 1986).
When injury forced John out of the game in 1987 he began summarising with BBC radio, and started writing for Scotland on Sunday. After changing career from Civil Engineer to Chartered Accountant, he decided to give that up for an easier life, writing for The Herald, Scottish Rugby Magazine, the Sunday Herald, and BBC Online, as well as continuing his radio and television broadcasting.
John is married and lives in leafy suburbia with his wife and three children, where he tries to train every day and where he maintains a very unhealthy interest in all things sporting.
