Scotland six Nations 2010 squad announced

Post by niall » Wed Jan 20, 2010 3:17 pm

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_u ... 470145.stm

Forwards: John Barclay, Johnnie Beattie, Kelly Brown (all Glasgow Warriors), Alasdair Dickinson (Gloucester), Ross Ford (Edinburgh), Richie Gray, Dougie Hall (both Glasgow Warriors), Jim Hamilton (Edinburgh), Nathan Hines (Leinster), Allan Jacobsen (Edinburgh), Alastair Kellock (Glasgow Warriors), Scott Lawson (Gloucester), Moray Low (Glasgow Warriors), Alan MacDonald (Edinburgh), Euan Murray (Northampton Saints), Alasdair Strokosch (Gloucester)
Backs: Chris Cusiter (Glasgow Warriors), Simon Danielli (Ulster), Nick De Luca (Edinburgh), Max Evans, Thom Evans (Glasgow Warriors), Phil Godman (Edinburgh), Alex Grove (Worcester), Ruaridh Jackson (Glasgow Warriors), Sean Lamont (Scarlets), Rory Lawson (Gloucester), Graeme Morrison (Glasgow Warriors), Chris Paterson (Edinburgh), Dan Parks (Glasgow Warriors) and Hugo Southwell (Stade Francais).

Edinburgh's Mike Blair, Ross Rennie and Jim Thompson and Glasgow's Jon Welsh have been invited to train with the squad too, though aren't officially in it. Rory Lamont might also be added depending on how he plays midweek for toulon.

Also, must be the first time in a while that a scotland squad has contained more Glasgow players than Edinburgh (13 v 7). Amusing since edinburgh seem to enjoy commenting on the fact they only have one non-scot in their squad!

Since the squad has been announced, what would your starting XV be against France for the 7th February?

1. Jacobsen
2. Ford
3. Dickinson
4. Hines
5. Kellock
6. Strokosch
7. Barclay
8. Beattie
9. Cusiter
10. Jackson
11. T.Evans
12. Grove
13. M.Evans
14. S.Lamont
15. Paterson

I would have Euan Murray too, but first game is a sunday so he won't be playing!

Im with Baz, that would be my team. Parksy is the form fly half, Godman is playing rubbish and although Jackson looks the man for the future, 1 or 2 first grade appearences at stand off isn't enough yet for International selection.

Rest of the backs pick themselves, as does the back row to an extent but would be good to see Strokosh involved alot. Hines is a certainty, toss up between Hamilton and Kellock to partner him.

Ford at Hooker although worried he couldnt hit a barn door at lineout time during the 1872 cup games. Dickinson and Low at props, Murray will be resting as its a sunday and big Jacobsen is mince unless playing against Glasgow IMO.

i thought Dickinson was more a tighthead than loose (same with Low and Murray)?

edit: http://www.gloucesterrugby.co.uk/rugby/ ... ef=dynamic says he's loose. so I'd change my front row to:

1. Dickinson
2. Ford
3. Low (Murray for non-sunday matches)

Can't be doing that now Niall, you should have done your research prior to jumping in!

Have to say I'm shocked that Richie Vernon isn't included after he's been keeping Beattie out of the Glasgow side.

1. Dickinson
2. Ford
3. Low
4. Hines
5. Kellock
6. Strokosh
7. Barclay
8. Beattie

9. Cusiter

11. Danielli
12. Grove
13. M. Evans
14. T. Evans
15. R. Lamont
The Glass Man...

Why on earth would you pick Jim Hamilton!!?? Lazy and a penalty for the opposition just waiting at the next ruck he manages to drag his big sorry ass to!
Give me big Nathan and Kellock any day of the week! And I'd take Big Jace before I'd drop to him.

Rant over.

yup rod's right on the money there!

BTW - Vernon is injured, that's why he's not been considered for the squad.

Jason White is also injured - in case Rod was pushing for his selection!

I'm too old to step in for big Jace....I hope that's what you meant Roddy? No seriously I wasn't as such but still think he amongst others could do a better job than J Hamilton.

Euan Murray has to start ! He destroyed Munster last night (although not when it actually mattered !!) Should also give Jackson a go. We are treading water with Parks and Godman ! If we are going to play the Evans and Lamonts we need to give them the ball !
