The Experimental Law Changes
The new laws may be in place for the beginning of next season - i think they are an utter disaster and would be very concerned about the direction in which Rugby is going were they to come into force.
What do people think?

I like some of them, and i think they help promote a more entertaining game and demand higher passing and offloading skills, but then again the fundamentals like scrums and lineouts need to stay the same.
Think that teams get isolated very easily which could get frustrating, but the not being able to kick the ball straight out from your 22 if carried back in is a good rule to promote running rugby which is a good thing in my opinion.
All in all if i had the choice of all or nothing, then i would choose nothing, but i would like to test a mixture of the 2.

Just seen what they are proposing about the new laws. If they pass it will mean the death of social rugby and the big forwards. No need for line jumpers looks like we are all going to play rugby league.
Cut down on the number of sheep in each club.
1 team of 8 wing forwards and 7 backs West will canter up all the leagues they have been playing this way fro years

adopt the 22 line rule, and the free kicks business, aside from that, keep it the way it is.
edit: noticed this at the end:
Touch judges to be renamed as assistant referees.
Potential effect: None. Who cares?

If u watch the Super 14 then they dnt seem 2 b picking such players. They still tend 2 pick players at specific postions.
Most of the rules will not make a massive difference especially at our level. The only major one is the 5 metres at scrums as it is harder 4 defences especially close 2 the try line.
The rest can be eradicated by good rugby - Players at a ruck handling the ball, just wipe them out n they cant do it. SIMPLE.
At the end of the day scrums at our level dnt mean much as u can only drive 1 and a half metres so they shouldnt really effect the outcome of the game. I dont understand the reasoning behind how lineout specialist will disappear. Its not like they are saying you cant compete or anything!!! Madness.
At the end of the day if u reckon ure a gd enuf rugby player u should be able 2 adapt 2 wotever rule changes.

I'm with Hillkinson on this one. The rule changes aren't that drastic.
The ruck one is fine as ruck's are never refree'd correctly at our level anyway and by simplifying it so that any player on his feet can handle the ball is ideal. I don't see how the hell it will promote ball killing. The man on the deck still can't handle the ball. The confusing thing comes when the ball is picked up from the ruck, does it then become a maul?
The other confusion is the offside line being set up at the tackle? I assume they're stating that a tackle is only complete at the point where the ball can no longer be played by the tackled player so you can't offlaod from the deck and already have an offside line created?
The line outs, not arsed. It allows 15 men in the line but then you've got no backs so it wont happen. It fucks up shortened lines big time if the attacking side can't dictate the numbers though.
You can still scrum competitively so where's the beef there? The standing back 5 metres from scrums gives more space so has to be a good thing.
Pulling down mauls I don't like. People can get hurt doing that, I really don't like it.
Ball back into the 22 just forces kickers to develop and find space with kicks, gotta be a good thing.

Aye lovey....that extra 5 metres will surely make it easier for us to get the ball to vic off scrums. lol. other teams should be quaking at the very thought! The 22 kickin law...good for keepin the game alive and yeah kickin would have to be more tactical but as a full back not chuffed at the prospect of 15 bodies hunting me down wit no safety option of bootin it out the park. lol.
Lovey,
The off side line at the tackle means that a defensive player can't go beyond the tackle to look for an interception an offload mate from the ground by the tackled player. Basically a defensive player has to stay behind the ball as soon as the tackle is made instead of the current rule where you can go anywhere until a ruck or maul is formed.
hope that helps mate.

Once a break is made it's an almost certain try.
