Something Topical....

I get a bit annoyed when you're asked to play games when Scotland are playing.

Obviously we've had a hellish winter and missed a lot of games with the snow, and I'm not into stretching the season out into May. As many of you know I come into my own in the 7s tournaments. But it just doesn't seem right that you should have to play on a 6 Nations weekend and miss half the game.

I'm sure we could have kicked the game off at 1:30pm or something like that and then all us "weegies" would have been able to get up the road to see the match. OR if you want to be really crazy we could have played on a Sunday cos our props are happy enough to do that.

Scotland were very good - France were better. Anyone else think it wasn't a penalty try???

my first point in the thread was about the game at Peebles on the weekend and the general idea of having matches on the 6 nations weekends.

glad that folk can go to our game and then off to murrayfield too - but i like watching it on the telly anyways.

the kick off time on saturday suits me just fine Davy - I'll be sure to let you know when I need them shifted though

I completely agree Eddie, and I think your point was perhaps more general than aimed at the already difficult task of arranging current fixtures. The SRU are stuck in the past and as a result the game suffers a similar fate to that of scottish football. The amateur rugby game in Scotland should be played through the summer months when conditions are more suitable. This not only would improve the quality of rugby and help develop skills it would also encourage players to go and support the much maligned pro teams or international side. I understand there are now commitments with the UK cup for prem 1 teams but its a complete farce that this has not been looked at given the fact that rugby in Scotland is a minority sport, for the most part, supported by those who play the game. If we could only get rid of the idiots running scottish rugby from the Edinburgh private school system.......oh yeah and while I'm on a rant, the professional teams should release a number of the older players who will never make it in the international game to free up squad space and funds for younger promising players. More scottish players abroad would also benefit skills and the general understanding of foreign rugby styles and mean Phil Godman no onger has a reason to exist!!............and breath!!

I think Summer rugby would benefit Scottish rugby and general sport in Scotland as the warmer weather would encourage younger kids to get out and exercise, also would help get bigger crowds at games as much more enjoyable games to watch since warmer and skill level should improve. Cricket teams - tough luck, find another ground to play rounders on!!!

Interesting interview with Andre Arshavin about what he misses about home when playing in England, and one of the things he said was playing in the bad weather, he couldn't believe he was out training in the snow, and this is a guy from Russia!!!!!
