Scottish Teams Shouldn't be in the Heineken Cup

Post by teenwolf » Mon Dec 13, 2010 3:15 pm

When are we going to admit it and just pull out of the HC?

The other teams just have too much class for us - we'd be better off in the Challenge Cup where we could compete.

Any views?

Glasgow have been in the Challenge cup a few times when the Reivers existed and did alright (lost 42-39 in Round 2 on aggregate in 03/04 and 23-19 in the Quarter finals in 06/07 both to Saracens).

I think having both teams out the Heineken isn't the way forward, but having one in each would be better. If you look at the Club rankings there are French and English teams entering the Heineken with higher rankings than Glasgow and Edinburgh from playing in the Amlin. Toulon got 4 points for getting to the Final of the Amlin last season, compared to the 2 points Glasgow got for finishing third in their group.

I say have best finishing Scottish team in the Magners to go the Heineken cup and the other to go the Challenge Cup, this means that one team could have a couple years of gaining valuable ranking points so when they then re-enter the Heineken cup they are seeded and can avoid one of the "bigger" teams in Europe.

never knew the ranking worked like that - your idea is pretty sound niall.
