National Bowl 1st Round Draw

Post by morgan » Thu Feb 07, 2008 12:34 pm

1st round - ties to be played 16/02/2008

Newton Stewart or (Lanark or Millbrae) v Dalziel

Team Rankings;
Dalziel - National 1
Newton Stewart - National 2
Millbrae - West 2
Lanark - West 3

So 2 ties need top be played before we know who we will play, and i imagine this wont happen before next saturday! You would imagine Newton Stewart tho, being so far ahead of the other two.

Not an easy task for us tho, as although were a division above Newton Stewart, they are doing well, 3rd top. Will be a good challenge - and on the other hand a cracking bus trip home from wigtownshire!

cmon - if we cannae get a result in the diddy cup we want to be hanging up the boots. :wink:

we can take newton stewart even down there, it'll be an arm wrestle, but this is a really good chance for us to get to run out at murrayfield.

I think that should be the target for the rest of the season!

If we get through to the next round, here's the top teams we need to beat to make our way to the final,

National 1;
Preston Lodge
Royal High Corstorphine
Greenock Wanderers
Falkirk (altho one would assume they will stay in the big cup beating grangemouth)
Langholm
Edinburgh Uni

Dark horses in National 2;
How of Fife - flying high - possibly the team to watch
Caithness - hard place to go

Lenzie are doing plenty damage in Nat 3, and W/D are also flying in west 1 with many ex-prem 2/3 players

but if we get the finger out, there is nobody we cant beat there.

there are lots of potentially tasty fixtures in there, but we cannae get ahead of ourselves. in the cup you've got to go out and beat the team in front of you and forget about the next round until you're in the draw!

but aye, murrayfield is a realistic goal to set ourselves even with all the decent teams that could make it through.

we need to do something to brighten up a pretty dismal season for the band of loyal followers who are out there shouting the teams on come rain or shine!

Doubtful that there will be any teams from our league except Edin Uni as the rest have quite easy ties in the cup 3rd round to be honest. Remember the draw means we play the loser of those ties as they are all still in the cup as there ties for the round we just played have been delayed due to weather.
So going by leagues we are pretty much playing Lanark or Millbrae guys.

No easy games though. If we play a lower team we really need to stamp authority and destroy them. :twisted:

good shout baz - forgot it was the overall loser of that tie we will face.

So, lanark or millbrae - surely a chance to gain some confidence against much weaker opposition?

to save any confusion, I'll try to colour scheme my previous post!

edit: there are only 3 National 1 teams in the Bowl for Definite: Us, Edinburgh Uni and Greenock. And its very unlikely that RHC, PL, Langohlm, Falkirk or H/A will get beat.

Well we certainly appear to be the best team in our region in the bowl so hopefully we can progress to the national stages.

If we were to get Howe of Fife at any point they'd probably beat us They're romping National 2 just now. I've got a mate that used to play with them and he keeps me informed with how their getting on. We will be playing them next season.

We won't get How Of Fife.

We will prob be the best team left in it. Even if we do come up against a good team we should win. We have a real chance of getting to Murrayfield here. As Eddie says this should be our target now.

Unless they decide they want to try and go to Murrayfield and throw the game against Caithness then we could get them in the quarters or semis.

It'll be nice to play some weaker sides and hopefully get a few confidence boosting wins.

I know it's academic, but i'd have rather been still in the cup with a chance of getting a glamour tie.

however, now we're in the bowl we should make the best of it and strive for murrayfield :D

You would be better getting some league results first before you set your sights on Murrayfield starting this weekend. League is bread and butter cup is a distraction get the priorities right
