New Website - coming soon

Some of you will know that I've been rewriting the website over the last few months. The majority of the changes have been in the admin panel so don't affect many people, but there have been a few additions/modifications to the rest of the site. The main ones are:
  • Fixture Lists
    • links to video, photos and report from opposition's site
    • ball and match sponsor
    • Can view stats for games that have no match report
  • Squad Profiles
    • New Layout for main squad page
    • Player sponsors
  • Downloads and links section
  • Statistics
    • select player, venue, team, oppositions, season, etc
  • Calendar
    • ties games and events together
    • Other calendar items can be posted (like Glasgow/Scotland games)
  • Mailing List
  • Advertising on the main site
  • Content submission
    • Forum users can submit content for publishing on the main site
  • Efficiency - site is much faster
I'll be upgrading the forum too to phpBB3, whereas the gallery will remain as Gallery2 until Gallery3 comes out of Beta* with sufficient documentation for me to tie it in with the rest of the site. Gallery3 allows tagging, so this should allow us to work it in with player profiles!

I've almost finished coding the admin panel, but if there are any other features you think we should have then let me know and I'll try and get them added in before I upgrade in a couple of weeks (possibly next weekend).

ta :)

(Release Candidate 2 was launched a few weeks back it seems, so it should be launched full soon i hope!)

All sounds pretty good Niall !!!

Actually didn't understand much of it but I am guessing that one of the best websites in Scottish Rugby will soon be even better ?

Good work !!

Drew,
Likewise think Niall is doing a superb job, likewise most of it i needed laddders for as well. By the way what are you doing on the forum on a friday at that time in the morning?!

Agree with both Drew and Rod.

Maybe we should of have a page that consolidates all the articles about Dalziel in the local press with their links? There has been a couple of articles in the Wishaw Press and Motherwell Times.

thanks guys

that sounds like a plan Khalid, I'll see what the RSS feeds are like for those sites and could probably tie into them. Could probably add in National Press too if we wanted.

edit: should also say, this probably won't take me too long, did some RSS stuff for the La Fontaines where a list of their up coming gigs is displayed on an image:

Hi Niall

In the fixture lists (stupid question probably) can this include the fixture list for all of the mini and Midi teams as well ?

Rod

You have to at least pretend you are working when you come in early to make up time !!

With the midi and mini teams we just need someone to take charge for each age group. Roddy, Rod, spike and a few others have done it for different age groups, but we've never had all the ages covered. If each team Manager was to nominate someone to contact me I can give them access to put up and maintain fixtures for that particular age group.

With the minis they do have their own website, but I believe Willie Davidson is now with the midis so not sure what's happening there. Will email him and find out!

I will speak to the other Midi age groups to get someone nominated from each. I will nominate myself for the S2 age group (fixtures joint with S1). I have a copy of the fixtures that we have set up and am ready to go as soon as we can put them on.

cool,

Best to wait until I've done the upgrade as the input system will change (and I'm hoping to have a way of putting in masses of fixtures at the same time, instead of the current one-at-a-time method). If you can get them to sign up on the Forum* and then message me (or the admin account) I'll be able to give them access when the site goes live.

*new admin panel uses the forum user database instead of a separate one

I realise that I thought this was going to go live a few weeks back...

however, I'm happy to announce an extra feature of the new site...

a wiki!

This will allow us all to provide a detailed archive of Dalziel's history and combine the knowledge/experiences of the older club members and expats that use the site :)

(editing rights will be limited to the users of the forum, so randoms can't edit the pages :) )
