Match Report 1st XV v Livingston

Post by Dalziel PostBot » Sun Oct 25, 2009 2:11 pm

Dalziels second week on the road took them to a windy and wet Livingston on Saturday, where expectations were high that they could continue their winning season. It has been a few years since Dalziel had been at Almond Park but nothing much had changed with the home support screaming and shouting at every decision. Again Dalziel had a large travelling support who were a constant source of encouragement to the players.

A mid week training injury resulted in John Harris coming into the starting line up at centre with speedster Anton Mitchell taking the replacement spot in what turned out to be a memorable day for the young winger.

Guys - amazing win. Livingston's a really difficult place to go and get a result! Well done Antonio, keep showing the boys in the big team how it's done :P

Crawford Reid, MOTM 2 weeks on the trot! Gon yersell :)

The match reports get better week on week. There's scorching and smiting and all sorts of other unholy happenings going on in these attritional contests.

At the risk of sounding like a pedantic smart arse, I have resisted commenting on the past couple of occasions, but no longer can I haud ma weesht! ;)

The past tense of the verb "pass" is passed.

"Reid passed the ball to Simmonds".

However, "past" is the corresponding adjective (in centuries past), adverb (drove past), preposition (past midnight), and noun (lived in the past).

"Mitchell scorched past his opposite number"

This faux pas has been quite common, but the next one is a cracker. It seems that Scotty on The Enterprise couldn't do it, but Dalziel RFC can indeed change the laws of physics.

"Dually converted"

Was the conversion taken by two players in tandem or was it kicked with both feet simultaneously?? Both of these explanations seem improbable. So surely it was "duly converted".
