Having disposed of promotion hopefuls Murrayfield Wanderers the previous week and in doing so scoring four tries and gaining a valuable bonus point it was hoped Dalziel could achieve a similar result against county rivals East Kilbride and in doing so consolidating on their fourth place position.

Injuries to prop Stephan Findlay and centre Fraser Duguid saw Craig Lewis and Jamie Hillis come into the starting line up along with hooker Stephan Clowes and wing forward and former first fifteen captain Crawford Reid who had taken a year out to travel the world. Even with these changes Dalziel should still have had enough fire power to overcome a very young but stuffy East Kilbride team.
