Great effort in the first place to get to the semi-final...... all the more comendable when considering that the majority are available for next season again!
From what I'd heard we were certainly not lacking in skill but more in physique.
Time to hit the strength & conditioning pre season??
I know Perthshire and Howe of Fife both get their lads on early programmes which has made a difference to their clubs.
There are specific programmes designed for rugby players that the lads from Perpignan will have copies of.
If not please give me a call and I'll be happy to get some for any who want.
Well done to all the lads & the coaches for their fantastic progress.

yeh the weights is where it's at.

i used to just shrug and duck it when older players went on about it when i was a colt, but it would really help you lot to get an upper-hand on opponents and when you come up to senior rugby you'll not find that side of things so tough.

i regret not getting into it a lot earlier when my body was in a much better place to respond to the training. when you're young and full of testosterone you're body responds a lot better to the training and you're bullet proofing yourself for later life. but it's not about ibiza muscles it's about getting strong so you can burst tackles and win the 1-on-1 battles on the pitch.

There is good advice here. As a Club, at all levels, we should be putting some time in on the weights as this is an area that Jimmy has highlighted for improvement.

There are plenty of gyms around the area, many of which are easily affordable and there are the weights at DL Park, which are free to Club Members.

All rugby players benefit from weight training, both in their abaility to play the game at a more physical level and in the abaility to take the knocks without suffering injury.

the gym at dalziel is pretty good, but a proper squat rack could be good to replace or supplement the smith machine and a proper bench or two as well.

Could we pursue funding to get some gear like this? The 2014 Big Lottery Communities programme might be something we could tap into.

Just saw that Dunfermline went on to win the comp with a 20-0 win over Portobello tonight.
