Dalziel played host to Murrayfield Wanderers. The Edinburgh side were relegated from Premier 3 last season and had high hopes of making a swift return to the Premiership. For long spells in this match Dalziel trailled the visitors.
The home side started promisingly and for the first ten minutes the play was seldom out of the Edinburgh half. Both John Goldie and then Fraser Duguid went close but were held up close to the line. As the game developed the Wanderers backs started showing their potential with some seering breaks that fully tested the Dalziel defence. Whether because of the pressure or possibly because of their inexperience Dalziel gave away a number of soft penaties and in 20 minutes a Dalziel forward was penalised for handling the ball in a ruck, which became a regular feature of the game. The Wanderers stand off duly obliged with a twenty five metre penalty.
